Memoir Editing
Whether you need to start from scratch or have a partially completed memoir that you need some assistance with, I can help you bring your autobiography/memoir to life. Services range from a simple copy edit to a fully ghostwritten book. Where most people land is starting with a comprehensive consultation and making a plan going forward. I encourage people to create their own notes or recordings with my guidance and then I edit the work as we go. However each project is unique and will vary from person to person.
The end result is a professionally presented "real" book (either paperback or hardback) which can have as many or as few copies printed as you wish (with the option to print more at any time). Unlike the days of using an offset printer, there is no required minimum number of books to print at any one time. While there can be a discount for larger quantities, printing a small quantity is affordable, averaging around $10 per copy (depending on the length of the book). There is an option to also create a e-book and you can have your book listed for sale on the major e-book websites if you choose. You can check some of my completed book covers HERE.
As each project is individual, the cost can vary substantially and I am only able to provide a quote after having a detailed conversation about the intended project. I ask that you initially contact me by email and then a phone conversation or in person meeting can be arranged. To keep costs down I do encourage clients to complete parts of the project themselves where appropriate, but this can all be discussed as required.

I have got lots of ideas but nothing down on paper, can you help me get started?
Yes, absolutely! A majority of clients start with just memories and photos.
I have some notes but they are disorganised and maybe not useful, can we still do something with them?
Definitely. While notes might seem disorganised or a bit random they can still be used as the building blocks for your story. Anything you have written so far is a valuable resource.
I have some notes from my parents/grandparents and would love to do something with them. Is that possible?
Yes, I have done this several times. As long as you can fill in some of the gaps, this is similar to writing your own story.
Can I help my parent/grandparent/relative write their story?
Absolutely, I do this all the time.
Can we use voice recording to write a life story?
Yes. As voice recording becomes much easier on multiple devices it can be a popular way to record memories. With voice recognition an initial draft can be done from recorded voice files. This can then be edited once in written form.
Does my story need to be any set length?
No, there is no minimum or maximum length. While there are some common sense guidelines we use (for example a 10 page story probably isn't quite long enough), you do not have to conform to any set length.
I would like to get started by myself and then get some help. Is this possible?
It certainly is. I would recommend getting a copy of my book How Do I Write My Life Story? and working through that to make a solid start. Editing can then be done later.

Where are you located? Do I have to see you in person to work with you?
I am located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. You do not have to be local to work with me, as long as you have the means to email me information I can work with that. Or if you prefer to mail hard copies I can also do that.
